Power
There are numerous kinds of forklifts that are operated by propane gas. Propane-powered forklifts are simple to refill. The gas is stored inside a pressurized tank on the truck's rear. The propane is pushed into the engine, where it is converted into vapor and then the vapor mixes with air. The throttle of the forklift is used to control the vapor flow. A spark plug ignites the mix of vapor and air creating pressure which moves the pistons. The pistons turn the wheels and power the hydraulic pump.
Since the types of forklifts which are operated by propane are clean burning and have low emissions, they are suitable to be used inside other buildings and warehouses.
Hydraulics
What enables a forklift to raise and transport heavy things from one place to another is the hydraulic system. Tubes, cylinders and a pump make up the hydraulic system. The pump forces dense fluid in the tubing and into the cylinders. The pressure build up pushes a piston, which lifts the forks. When the forks are lowered by the operator, the hydraulic fluid flows out of the cylinders and back in the pump.
Steering
Propane forklifts work well where maneuverability is required. Not like an automobile, a forklift makes use of its rear wheels to pivot, which allows the forklift to turn quickly on a tight radius.

Counterbalance forklifts are essentially lift trucks which are designed with counterweight at the back of the machine. The counterweight works to balance the weight which the forks are carrying at the front of the cargo. This design is engineered to stabilize conventional forklifts. As far as electric counterbalance forklifts are concerned, the counterweight is formed by the battery itself.
